Lorna has worked as a musician for over 45 years, performing and teaching.  Education includes ARCT in Piano Pedagogy from the Royal Conservatory of Music, Bachelor of Education degree from UBC and she is currently completing her Bachelor of Music degree.  Piano studies included festival awards and recognition.  Performance work began in church and expanded to vocal and instrumental soloists and choirs.  Composing, performing and teaching comprise current work.

Performance work begain as a church musician and expanded to include collaborative work with vocal and instrumental soloists and choirs.  Working as a church musician afforded opportunities for composing work for choir and congregation.  Composing an accepted entry for the new Hockey Night in Canada theme was particularly rewarding.

 

 

Teaching in the Coquitlam School district afforded opportunities to work with students of varying abilities on various instruments including recorder, guitar and handbells.  Achievements include directing an auditioned District choir and having a school choir place 2nd provincially.  

 

Private piano instruction has been ongoing with all ages and levels accepted.

Performance work began as a church musician, pianist and choir director.  This ongoing work affords opportunities for composing for congregation and choir.  Additional composing includes a successful entry for the Hockey Night in Canada Theme.  

 

Teaching piano privately began at 13 and continues today.  All ages and levels of students are welcome with the goal to develop the musician, not just the pianist.  This creates well rounded skills and wider experiences in music appreciation, theory, history, composing, ensemble work and sight reading.  

 

Working in the Coquitlam School District included classroom music with recorder, guitar and handbells as well as choir directing.  Choir work included directing an auditioned District choir and leading a school based choir to 2nd place provincially.  

 

Collaborative work has always been pursued and enjoyed with vocal or instrumental soloists, choir or instrumental ensembles.  University afforded experience in harpsichord continuo as well as a community production of Vivaldi’s works.  Listening sensitively to support the other musicians is particularly rewarding.  Finding unexpected ways to assist others in the ensemble during rehearsals a strength.  

 

Lorna brings comprehensive musical skills to her extensive studies as an educator, providing flexibility for students and performners alike.
